Grandpa's Dragon
The mountains
were enormous where Sian's grandpa lived.
"Grandpa!"
shouted Sian when she got to his cottage.
"Bore da"
means "good morning" in Welsh.
"Grandpa,
tell me about that mountain," asked Sian.
"That
mountain is called Moelwyn Mawr and a great dragon lives there!" "...
the dragon only comes out at night because he is scared of the people from
Tanygrisiau!"
"When the
dragon wakes up he always has a terrible cough! The white smoke that he
coughs up makes the moon in the sky," explained grandpa.
"... the blue
bits on the moon are bits of charcoal from the dragon's fire!"
Later that
evening Sian and grandpa decided to walk up the Moelwyn Mawr in search of
the dragon.
They climbed
over the biggest boulders ... Finally Sian
and her grandpa reached a cave near the top of the Moelwyn Mawr. They
waited for the dragon to appear but all they could hear was a strange
noise...
Soon the sun
fell behind the great mountain and Sian and her grandpa watched the 'moon'
slowly rise and light up the valley beneath them.
... but
grandpa did ... later ... much later! Siop-Siarad - to help you learn to write, read and speak Welsh |
